For over a decade, all of my solo recital performances have been on multiple woodwind instruments. Last month I performed (twice) a recital program with pieces played on flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and three saxophones. Here are some of the things I do to prepare.

The Note Image Generator, version 0.1, is a tool for quickly generating batches of images of single notes on staves, like this:

It might be useful to users of my Fingering Diagram Builder, who want note images to combine with fingering diagram images when making fingering charts, but there are lots of potential uses for various educational materials. You can select a range of notes, a clef, and some other options, and download the images for your use.
The image creation is powered by LilyPond. The images are free for any usage.
Let me know what you think!

I’ve submitted a comment at his blog regarding some matters of tessitura. Dr. Brandon keeps comments under tight moderation, so my remarks may not be available yet.
Here’s a little web app that I put together for quizzing my university students on their scales. (The music majors all have to pass a scale exam, playing randomly-selected major and minor scales.) I hope it’s useful to somebody out there:
As always, feel free to contact me with bug reports, feature requests, or mockery of my humble coding skills.
This year was my first time attending the National Flute Association‘s annual convention, held this year in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Here are a few personal favorites among the things I saw and heard (in no particular order): Read More “Report: National Flute Association Convention 2011”
Here are some of the things that went on here at your favorite woodwind blog during the past year.
